Cision Pricing (2026), What the Media Database Really Costs

Cision does not publish its prices. Buyers who only use the media database report paying about $3,500 to $6,000 a year. Vendr's median Cision deal, across all packages, is $12,625 a year. PR Newswire, which Cision also owns, is priced a different way, per press release.

Part 1. What the Cision media database costs

How Cision sets a price

You will not find a price list on cision.com. The pricing page is a 3-step form that asks 9 questions, including your phone number. It says, "Complete the form, and one of our experts will reach out to you"¹.

Cision's own FAQ explains the basis. "CisionOne offers flexible pricing tailored to your specific needs, including options based on users, features, and service levels"². So two teams can pay very different amounts for the same tool.

Cision's request-pricing pages split the offer into four packages. They are Journalist Outreach, Media Monitoring, Media Monitoring plus Social, and the full CisionOne Suite⁸. If you only want contacts, ask for Journalist Outreach on its own.

What a database-only deal looks like

The cheapest real deals are for the database alone. One buyer wrote, "I pay $3500 for the media database. I have two users"⁶. A 2023 thread put the database at "about $6K/year"⁷.

That lines up with the low end of Vendr's data. Vendr's Cision price range starts at $3,150 a year⁴. So a fair range for database-only Cision is about $3,500 to $6,000 a year for one or two users.

What pushes the price up

Seats. Each named user adds cost. A team of 5 reported about $23,000 a year⁶.
Monitoring. Monitoring raises the price in buyer reports. A 2-seat plan with the database and news monitoring was about $10,000 a year⁶.
Social listening. One 4-user team with the database, monitoring and social listening reported about $13,000 a year⁶.
Onboarding. Vendr lists one-time fees of $2,000 to $10,000 or more⁴.
Renewals. Vendr notes yearly rises of 3 to 7%⁴.

Contract terms that affect the real cost

Cision's Master Subscription Agreement says "All fees are invoiced annually in advance"³. It adds that the fees are non-cancellable unless your order says otherwise. So you pay for the full year at the start, and you cannot stop paying halfway.

Renewal and notice terms are set on each order form, not in the public agreement. A Trustpilot reviewer in June 2026 wrote, "they have unreasonable auto renewal policies"¹². Read your order form before you sign, and note the renewal date.

Also check what happens to your lists at the end. Section 6.4 of the agreement says "each party will delete all data and content to which it no longer has a license"³. Lists you build are tied to the contract.

Part 2. What PR Newswire distribution costs

PR Newswire is the press release wire in the Cision group. It is the one product in the group you can buy by card without a sales call. It is priced per release, not per seat.

Third-party pricing guides list a membership of $195 a year by card, or $249 if invoiced⁹¹⁰. A US national release starts at $1,070 for 400 words. Each extra 100 words adds $340⁹¹⁰. We could not check these prices on prnewswire.com, so treat them as a guide.

Wire costs add up fast. Ten national releases a year at the base length would cost more than $10,000 on these figures, before any add-ons. Billing can also be a pain point. One Reddit user in September 2025 said the "billing department keeps sending me invoices for press releases that we sent out YEARS ago"¹¹.

A wire and a media database do different jobs. A wire posts your release to news sites. A database helps you pitch one reporter at a time. Many teams buy them separately.

Is Cision worth the cost?

Cision can be worth it if you use most of what you pay for. It claims "over 500,000 media profiles across 225 countries and territories"¹³. It adds monitoring, reports and an account manager. TrustRadius reviewers rate it 8 out of 10 across 458 reviews and ratings¹⁴.

It is harder to justify if you only build media lists. A Reddit user in May 2025 said, "As a media database I think cision is overpriced and not great"¹⁵. Another wrote, "Cision has probably the best database but $$$"¹⁶.

The solo line assumes one user who needs contacts only. The agency line assumes 3 people who build lists and send pitches, with no monitoring. Cision quotes vary, so use these as a starting point for your own talks.

What buyers say about Cision's price

These are short quotes from public reviews. They are the reviewers' words, not ours.

The same Reddit user added that Cision is less strict than some rivals about people sharing one account. Ask your rep what the seat rules are before you sign, because seats drive the price.

How Cision's price compares with Muck Rack and Meltwater

On Vendr's data, Cision costs about the same as Muck Rack. Vendr's median Muck Rack buyer pays $13,000 a year¹⁸. Meltwater's own blog says its Starter plan starts from $10,000 a year¹⁹. Cision's Vendr median is $12,625⁴.

The bigger gap is between database-only deals and full suites. All three sell yearly contracts through a sales team. If you only need contacts, compare the database-only quote, not the suite price.

How to get a better Cision quote

Ask for the database alone. Request the Journalist Outreach package and say you do not need monitoring.
Know the benchmarks. Vendr reports average savings of 25.53% on Cision deals⁴.
Ask about the yearly rise. Get the renewal price in writing, since Vendr lists 3 to 7% rises⁴.
Ask about onboarding. Ask for the onboarding fee to be waived or cut.
Check notice terms. Ask how and when you can give notice before renewal.

Some buyers find the process tedious. One wrote, "I find the whole 'we only quote after a demo' thing pretty tedious"⁷.
