City Bureau, a nonprofit civic journalism lab, was established in 2015 and is based in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Chicago's South Side. The organization is deeply committed to bridging the gap between journalists and the community, fostering a spirit of collaboration to yield equitable media coverage, and promoting civic participation. Their mission is to hold power accountable and their vision is to equip individuals with the tools and knowledge needed to effect change in their communities.
City Bureau offers a suite of unique services which include Public Newsroom workshops, Documenters program, and a Reporting Fellowship program. The Public Newsroom workshops are designed to foster dialogue and skill sharing between journalists and the public. The Documenters program pays and trains citizens to document public meetings. The Reporting Fellowship program is a paid opportunity for emerging journalists to report on social issues and underreported stories in Chicago.
