I didn’t understand why I was alive and the part of me that questioned my existence kept asking me to justify existing. I felt as though I had to prove myself and to explain who I am before I was allowed to be. There are parts of what it means to be me—my racialization, my sexualization, and my queerness—that not everyone believes. The world made me very uncomfortable.
