In my early days, the world was only attainable through books, magazines, and movies - but I had dreams of escape. After paying off my student loans, I made a promise to myself that I’d book the first cheap flight abroad that I could find. A few months later, I was off to Belgrade, Serbia. My few steps on foreign soil smelled of cigarettes, tasted like burek, and burned like rakia. It also felt like home. Not Serbia necessarily, though I fell in love with that part of the world, but the feeling of being an outsider. I think it’s because I’ve never felt like I belonged
