Field journal of presence Laurent Mathieu Naturalist, photographer and writer My field practice is centred in the Sierra de Guadarrama, north of Madrid, Spain, where I have returned regularly to the same ground for the past five years, learning the rhythms of roe deer, foxes and the life around them. My photography has taken me farther afield over the years, but this repeated return has gradually become part of everyday life. Who At heart, I’m still that kid from the Alps — cold mornings, steep paths, the silence of dawn, and that widening sense of space I first discovered high in the mountains.
