Do you love cities? But are you tired of your rent going up? The bus leaving you on the side of the road? Your job not paying enough? Being seen as a nuisance instead of a neighbor? Your kids being undereducated, underfed, and unhappy? I’m Kristen Jeffers, and I’m proud to tell you that I’m Black, queer, feminist, disabled, from North Carolina, and living in Baltimore. I grew up watching Sesame Street and visiting my grandparents on their small rural farms, er, homesteads in the 1990s South. I get a rush when I take the DC Metro, but I get sad when I look at how much of my budget is going to expenses and seeing folks who look like me dead instead of thriving. I created this podcast & channel, Defying Gentrification, to be your friend through all the life changes those of us who are Millennials, as well as Gen Z and X are going through, especially those of us who have more intersectional identities like myself.
