By which I mean I studied healing because I was in desperate need of it. Growing up in a verbally and emotionally abusive environment, I suffered with depression and anxiety. I took drugs and became addicted--all because I was trying to feel better from the emotional wounds I was carrying. I thought I could find something outside myself that could make me feel better on the inside. This did not work. I became more lost, depressed, eventually considering suicide as a final hope for relief. When I discovered Internal Family Systems, my life changed.
