Description

The Department of Music at the University of South Dakota provides students with the knowledge and skills to become professional musicians, performers, educators, scholars and lifelong learners. Students are given opportunities for musical development, leadership growth and personal enrichment through mentored performances, classroom study, individual instruction and guided research. A degree in music from USD provides students with a solid foundation to enter the teaching profession, gain confidence as a performer, or to seek an advanced degree in music education, performance or music history. Our graduates go on to teach, conduct, compose, perform and shape music education through curriculum development. You’ll find them holding the baton in front of an ensemble or behind the microphone at center stage.
