PDA North America (pathological demand avoidance)

Description

PDA is an autistic profile that is gaining recognition in the United States after being widely accepted in the UK for 30+ years. PDA children & adults avoid everyday demands & have a persistent drive for autonomy. The demand avoidance is a symptom of the need for autonomy. PDA individuals have a highly sensitive nervous system that triggers a threat response. These highly anxious individuals are frequently not recognized as being autistic and in need of understanding & support. We aim to grow awareness of PDA autism to parents, individuals, educators and therapists. We create resources for families to have a place to turn for support and guidance. We provide training for professionals & information in order to effectively teach or support PDAers. We want PDAers to know that they are understood and supported. PDA North America is a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status. All donations are tax-deductible.
