Description

KOBI-TV NBC5, founded by William B. Smullin in 1953, is a pioneering broadcasting company based in Medford, Oregon. It is now led by Smullin's daughter, Patricia C. Smullin, as the President. The company, along with its sister station KOTI-TV NBC2, forms an integral part of the California Oregon Broadcasting Inc. (COBi). They are the only locally owned TV stations serving the Rogue Valley and Klamath Basin, reaching audiences in nine counties across Oregon and California.

The company delivers a variety of programming as an NBC affiliate, catering to diverse viewer interests. KOBI-TV NBC5 and KOTI-TV NBC2 have established a strong local and state-wide presence by offering news coverage, local color programming, and a range of entertainment content.

Historically, KOBI-TV NBC5 has been a trailblazer in the industry. It was the first VHF television station in Oregon and has consistently introduced technological innovations in broadcasting. Among its many firsts, it was the first to operate in stereo, to utilize electronic news gathering technology, and to provide state-wide microwave news coverage.

COBi, the parent company of KOBI and KOTI, is the longest continuously independent broadcast group in the West and among the three oldest in the country, reflecting their enduring commitment to quality broadcasting and localism.
