In addition to the daily paper, the Capital Journal also publishes the Reminder Plus, a free weekly publication enjoyed by nearly 40,000 readers. In 2006, following its acquisition by Wick Communications, the Capital Journal underwent a significant redesign, including press upgrades and capital improvements. Wick Communications, a family-owned community newspaper group, operates 32 newspapers and 23 specialty publications across 13 states, adding to the Capital Journal's industry positioning.

The Capital Journal's commitment to journalistic excellence was recognized in 2008 when it won the South Dakota Newspaper Association's prestigious General Excellence award, judged independently by the Nevada Press Association.
